Andrew Cowie has been an active performer on both the UK and European scene since starting his undergraduate studies in trombone at the Royal Academy of Music in London with Ian Bousfield, Peter Moore, Matt Gee and Dudley Bright. Andrew is currently a postgraduate at the Royal College of Music (MPerf harpsichord) under Terence Charlston and Robert Woolley with a scholarship since September 2024. An eclectic musician, Andrew performs regularly on various instruments, including historical keyboards, sackbut and piano. Recent performances stretch from the reopening of the King’s Gallery in Buckingham Palace on keyboard, Aurora Orchestra at Southbank Centre, Japan Matsuri Festival in Trafalgar Square, Royal Academy Jazz Orchestra with Gwylim Simcock and RAM Symphony Orchestra with Edward Garner on trombone to the London Händel Festival on harpsichord and European tours with Girton College Cambridge Choir on sackbut. Andrew’s versatility has seen him place the past two years on the UK/Worldwide Classical Charts, including 8th place following last summer’s tour with Girton, with a third album to be released in 2025. This has led to Andrew performing in various old churches across Europe amongst which include Cremona Cathedral, Salzburg Cathedral, St. Peter’s in Vienna, and Southwark Cathedral and the Holy Sepulchre. Recent recitals include the inaugural concert celebrating the reopening of Fyvie Hall at the University of Westminster as well as Westminster Central Hall. Andrew is a regular accompanist for coachings, masterclasses, and competitions at the Royal Academy and Royal College of Music, playing for Lucy Crowe, Rachel Podger, Richard Stokes, Florence Daguerre de Hureaux, Sophie Daneman and others. His new project “Chantefable” with soprano Mariana Rodrigues is an exciting blend of improvised music, poetry and song and has received international acclaim from audiences in the UK and abroad. Andrew is a Parnassus Scholar, supported by the Charles Colt Scholarship, and is a recipient of the Help Musicians Ian Fleming Award.

Andrew Cowie is currently in his first year of postgraduate studies at the Royal College of Music studying harpsichord with Terence Charlston and Robert Woolley. Andrew also holds a BMus Hon from the Royal Academy of Music studying tenor trombone with Ian Bousfield, Peter Moore, Matt Gee, and Dudley Bright, and harpsichord with James Johnstone.
He is a regular collaborator with the jazz, vocal, and historical performance department at the Royal Academy of Music and Royal College of Music. Andrew is also a member of the internationally acclaimed Chantefable with soprano Mariana Rodrigues, known for its otherworldly performances combining poetry, song, and improv.
Andrew is a Parnassus Scholar and is generously supported by the Charles Colt Scholarship. Andrew is a recipient of the Help Musicians Ian Fleming Award.

As a keyboard player, Andrew has performed extensively in the UK and abroad. Recent performances stretch from Buckingham Palace to the world famous keyboard collection at Hatchlands Park featuring famous composers very own keyboards. Andrew is a sought after accompanist, particularly for vocal repertoire. His duo Chantefable of voice and piano has been featured for the Bloomsbury Festival, the opening concert of the Students Create Festival in RAM, as well as Vilalte Music Festival in Corsavy, France, and events at Southwark Cathedral, Regent Hall, and more
On historical keyboards Andrew’s recent performances include the opening of the King’s Gallery in Buckingham Palace, Hatchlands/Academy Telemann Project playing harpsichord; Nobody’s Jig performance playing virginal; London Händel Festival with Barokksolistene and Academy HP Department playing harpsichord; Royal Academy of Music Bach Cantata series playing chamber organ; Strozzi on Love and Loss, International Women’s Day concert playing harpsichord.
He has worked with Rachel Podger, Laurence Cummings, James Baillieu, Joe Middleton, James Gilchrist, Margaret Faultless, Carole Cerasi, Natalie Clein, Eamonn Dougan, Richard Stokes, Florence Daguerre de Hureaux, Lucy Crowe, Giulia Laudano, Marie Vassiliou, Raymond Connell, Michael Chance, Marcus Van der Akker, Kate Paterson, Nuccia Focile, Nick Mulroy, Liz Kenny, Jan Waterfield, Christian Gerharher and Jeroen Berwaerts.
He has been an accompanist at RAM since 2021 playing for the Baroque Vocal Elective (harpsichord and chamber organ) and Postgrad Craft of Italian (piano), as well as various masterclasses, concerts, and coachings.
Classical trombone
As a classical solo trombonist he has performed at the Westminster Central Hall (December 2023) and at the inaugural concert celebrating the reopening of Fyvie Hall, University of Westminster (April 2023).
Andrew has worked with/performed for in concerts and masterclasses various acclaimed musicians, including Christian Lindberg, Edward Garner, Jorgen van Rijen, Joe Alessi, Bob Hughes, Jeremy West, David Titterington, Jeroen Berwaerts, Matthew Knight, Gareth Wilson, Daniel Bowling, Chris Hopkins and James Maynard.
He has played with the Southbank Sinfonia, Rush Hour concert series; the Royal Academy of Music Symphony Orchestra and Symphonic Brass ensembles, Aurora Orchestra, Orchestra of the City, Fulham Opera, Jersey Chamber Orchestra, His Majesty’s Sackbuts and Cornetts, Ensemble La Notte, Peregrine Orchestra, Academy of Ancient Music, recorded and toured (Germany, Austria and Italy) with Girton College Cambridge Choir for their album with music by Marc’Antonio Ingegneri.
As a classically trained trombonist, Andrew has played most of the classical performance trombone repertoire, both solo and orchestral. Andrew has toured Europe and recorded several albums on sackbut, and is proficient at euphonium and bass trumpet.
Jazz
As a jazz trombone player he collaborates and records regularly with the Royal Academy of Music Jazz Orchestra, including performances with Gwylim Simcock, Josephine Davies and Giacomo Smith. He also has worked with Alan Baylock, Wayne Bergeron, Tom Walsh, Nicki Iles, Pete Churchill, Nick Smart, Mike Lovatt and Trevor Mires. Andrew was a prize winner at the 2015 and 2016 Oñate International Jazz Festival for both trombone and piano and a member of NMMEA All State Jazz for trombone, bass trombone and piano.
Andrew is also experienced in playing for musical theatre pit bands, most recently playing for Merrily We Roll Along and Jerry Herman the Musical.
